UW-Madison has several scholarship programs. These are for student leaders who are either specifically recruited to the university, or who are offered a scholarship during their admissions process. These programs serve mostly students of color, though you are not required to be a student of color to join, and most have white students as well. Here are some of the major programs:
PEOPLE Students join this program by high school and receive support in preparing for college.
POSSE Students join a “posse” of student leaders in high school. The posse is from the same city as them, and goes along together to the same university.
Chancellor’s Scholars Students can receive this four-year merit scholarship upon admission, if they have high grades, and are targeted minorities or are socioeconomically disadvantaged.
First Wave Students are admitted through this arts-based scholarship to UW-Madison. Many Firstwave students come from major US cities.
Other initiatives on campus include:
The Multicultural Student Center provides workshops and trainings to students, staff, and faculty about topics related to racial injustice at UW-Madison. You may request a workshop or training for your student groups at the MSC website.
Intercultural Dialogues (ICD) is a discussion-based, ethnic studies-designated course created by and for students at UW-Madison. The ICD syllabus and other important information is available at the ICD website.
